6 Features You’ll Love in PECOS 2.0 When it Debuts in June

PECOS 2.0

Completing Medicare enrollments and revalidations has been a headache for practices over the past several years, due to a complicated process and a slow approval system. As practices have complained, CMS has been listening, and the agency aims to fix that issue with the debut of PECOS 2.0 this June.

Read on to discover some of the benefits you’ll discover once the new PECOS 2.0 enrollment system goes live.

1. A Single Application for Multiple Enrollments

Under PECOS 2.0, providers will have one national profile connecting multiple enrollments, which will allow you to enroll in more than one state with just one application. It will also ensure that you can update your information across several enrollments within a single application, CMS notes.

2. Existing PECOS Will Transfer Records to Updated Software

Despite the fact that PECOS 2.0 is rolling out, you won’t have to start from scratch when filing enrollments or revalidations. Your existing data will transfer to the new version of PECOS, and that information will be pre-populated in future enrollments so you don’t have to type it in every time.

4. The Process Will Be Tailored to Your Needs

The new customized application process will ask the reason you’re in the system, and once it knows that, it will only show the fields you need to complete the process. By just showing the items relevant to you, the adaptable system will allow for faster application times.

4. The System Will Remind You When Revalidation Is Due

Sometimes it feels like the revalidation period creeps up on you and you may miss it, but PECOS 2.0 will send automatic reminders prompting you to log in. Once you do, you’ll be guided through the information you need to add, review and confirm—rather than having to distinguish which fields apply to you.

5. Error Detection System Catches Issues as You Go

Perhaps most appealing to medical practices weary of submitting PECOS applications—only to be sent correction requests later—is a real-time error detection system that validates your information as you go. This smart error detection system is expected to save time both during application processing and afterwards because the system won’t need to check errors in a second step—it will be done right during the application process.

6. Application Status Tracking

Once you apply, you can access the real-time status of any applications you submit with a single tracking screen, making it simpler to see where you stand. This will preclude practices from having to wait on hold with Medicare reps to check in on enrollment status.

The existing PECOS system will remain available until the new one goes live, so practices shouldn’t lose any progress once the system updates to the new PECOS 2.0. Keep an eye on the Training Leader website as more details about PECOS 2.0 become available this spring.
