Providers who want to begin billing insurers for their services may find themselves navigating the CAQH portal. Getting enrolled with CAQH provides the clinician with a streamlined process for all later credentialing, including getting an NPI or being able to write prescriptions. In short, CAQH credentialing gives your providers a central place to store information such as their medical license or work history so you won’t have to send it out again and again.
If you want to complete the CAQH Provider Data Portal (previously known as CAQH ProView) profile faster, consider using these CAQH credentialing preparation tips to help you cycle through the process much faster.
1. Gather Details About the Provider’s Education and Training
Once you’re in the CAQH ProView portal, you’ll be asked about the provider’s education and training, which is why you should have the following details on hand before you start:
- Medical school name and graduation date
- Institutions and dates for any other degrees
- Locations and dates of the provider’s internships and residencies
- Information about where the clinician performed any fellowships or preceptorships
- Past and current teaching appointments
2. All Board Certifications
If your provider is board-certified by any certifying parties, get information about the name of the certification organization, along with the date of their official certification. You’ll also need to know which specialty the provider is registered under, such as internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, family practice, etc.
3. Details About the Practice Location
You may know information about your practice by heart, but if you’d don’t, it’s important to get access to that data. You’ll need those details on hand before you begin to complete the CAQH profile. Ensure you have the following information:
- Practice name and type
- Practice address and contact information
- The billing, office manager and credentialing contact names
- Services, certifications, limitations and hours of operation
- Partners and covering colleagues
- Names of the hospitals where the provider is affiliated
4. Malpractice Insurance Information
Be ready to share the name of your malpractice insurance company, any policy numbers and coverage limitations, and other details proving that you’re covered in case of malpractice accusations.
You’ll also need to disclose the provider’s malpractice history, such as whether there have been any malpractice claims, settlements or payouts.
5. Work History and References
You must know where else the provider worked, along with names and contact information for any references from their prior organizations. This allows the CAQH team to verify information without having to reach back out to your practice for additional information.
