2026 ICD-10

If you’ve been looking for new codes describing chronic ulcers that aren’t related to pressure ulcers, the 2026 ICD-10-CM code set has you covered. You’ll find over 100 new non-pressure ulcer codes effective Oct. 1, 2025, in addition to hundreds of additional codes that will debut for everything from eyelid inflammation to pelvic pain.

Keep reading to familiarize yourself with a few of the 2026 ICD-10-CM codes that will take effect this fall.

Welcome 110 New Non-Pressure Ulcer Codes

Not every ulcer that affects a patient is a pressure ulcer, and the 2026 ICD-10-CM update dedicates nearly a quarter of its new codes to non-pressure ulcers. You’ll find these diagnoses organized by body site, while you’ll also need to specify how deep the ulcer is. New codes include:

  • L98.438 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of abdomen with other specified severity
  • L98.469 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of face with unspecified severity
  • L98.111 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of right upper arm limited to breakdown of skin
  • L98.452 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of neck with fat layer exposed
  • L98.A123 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of left upper arm with necrosis of muscle
  • L98.A314 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of right hand with necrosis of bone
  • L98.A325 — Non-pressure chronic ulcer of left hand with muscle involvement without evidence

You’ll note that these codes list not only the body site (such as “left hand”), but they also denote the severity of the ulcer (such as “fat layer exposed.”) Be sure to scrutinize the documentation for the location and depth of the wound so you can select the most accurate code.

Check for New Pain Codes

The 2026 ICD-10-CM code set expands the options for pain, deleting R10.2 (Pelvic and perineal pain) starting in October and replacing it with a series of more specific codes that go out to the fifth character. These include:

  • R10.21 — Pelvic and perineal pain, right side
  • R10.22 — Pelvic and perineal pain, left side

You’ll also find new codes for flank pain, costovertebral tenderness, suprapubic tenderness and other pain and tenderness.

Specify Site for Eyelid Inflammation

While you’ve always had access to an eyelid inflammation code (H01.8), you’ll need to take better note of the location before you can select a code. That’s because H01.8 is being deleted and replaced with nine site-specific codes, such as:

  • H01.82 — Other specified inflammation of right lower eyelid
  • H01.85 — Other specified inflammation of left lower eyelid
  • H01.8B — Other specified inflammation of left eye, upper and lower eyelids

If your providers aren’t accustomed to documenting the eyelid site (upper vs. lower, left vs. right, etc.) talk to them about how important that is going forward.
