Medicare’s PECOS 2.0 system for credentialing and enrolling your providers is expected to arrive this year, and if you aren’t ready for it when it goes into effect, you’ll be behind the eight ball.
Check out a sneak peek of five PECOS 2.0 features you’ll need to master if you want your provider enrollment applications to continue flowing through the system smoothly.
1. A Single Application
PECOS 2.0 will maintain one national profile that connects multiple enrollments and allows you to enroll in multiple states at the same time.
What this means: Suppose your provider practices in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Under the new software system, you’ll have access to all of that within one application rather than having to jump back and forth between three different applications.
2. Data Pre-Population
The PECOS system will pre-populate existing data about your provider into the appropriate fields to speed up the process, and the questions will be customized to your provider’s specialty and credentials.
What this means: Each application will be tailored to your specific provider, pulling in existing information so you won’t have to add data that you’ve added previously. This is expected to save a significant amount of time.
3. Enhanced Capability to Add or Delete Group Members
The simplified PECOS 2.0 application will allow you to quickly add or remove members from your listing, with modern menus, tabs and options shown in a simpler, easier to follow design that makes this process faster and simpler.
What this means: You’ll no longer need to go hunting around the application looking for the best way to add or remove members from your application and enrollment rolls.
4. Real-Time Application Status Reviews
PECOS 2.0 will feature smart error-checking technology that prompts you to enter the right information, rapidly reviewing and validating the application as you go, rather than waiting until you’re ready to submit to see the warnings and errors that the system has found.
What this means: The real-time application status will allow you to fix any errors than pop up to ensure you’re completing the application properly. If you have any issues along the way, MAC reps will be able to assist you live during business hours, and you’ll even have the ability to screen-share with your MAC representatives.
5. Revalidation Reminders
The PECOS 2.0 system reminds you when a revaluation is due and guides you though which information to review and confirm so you can ensure your providers’ validations won’t lapse.
What this means: You’ll no longer have to visit the revalidation center — which isn’t always up to date — to check on your status. Instead, you’ll get reminders so you can ensure you’re filing the right documentation before any deadlines.
